Stories told by whiskey lips

Last week Stevomatix and me attended the show of Astronautalis.
He is one of those hip hop artists that most of our old mates laugh at and start an always coming back topic: this is not hip hop anymore…
I am quite tired of this, so once and for all: it is one part of the evolution of that music we started to listen to in the early 90ies, also the one I identify most with.
As usual for that kind of underground acts visiting Europe for the first time Astronautalis totally rocked the house.
He played songs from his latest album, Pomegranate, as well as older ones. Our all candy was a track from his new project, not published yet.
His beats include various instruments but it was a one-man gig. He held to a chair, a bottle under his lap top table and the mic of course.
The sound is somewhere between hip hop, indie rock, pop, punk and more to find for sure. If he would be a stylist I think he would be into layering.
His freestyle skills, he dedicated to it many years, impressed me highly. He asked the audience to throw some subjects in and continued interlacing George Clooney, sausage & potatoes, Steve McQueen and guinea pigs in a surprising way, while standing on his chair.
The show was like an endless story told by whiskey lips.
Some essential questions I had:
What is your favourite shape?
*a: The side-line-curve of a woman’s neck.
Explain what the word freestyle means to you?
*a: Challenge, positivism, frustration.
How you stay less then 24 hours in Berlin?
*a: I gotta play some other shows but I will be back for sure.
Your size of shoe?
*a: Europe 42
What???
*a: US 9,5
Really? To me they seem smaller.
He takes off his shoes, I compare them to my Nike Zoom Blasts (38) and they almost match, the 42 is written on the sole.
