Hussein Chalayan – From fashion and back
Posted by Deborah Latouche on January 30, 2009 , 3 Comments

If there is one thing you must do before the 17th May – it’s get down to the Design Museum (London) to see the exhibition of fashion visionary Hussein Chalayan.
It’s a wonderful treat to have the opportunity to see his unique pieces up close; he has a meticulous eye for detail that is reflected in his constant fascination with technology and the use of innovative materials.
This ex St. Martins graduate launched his own label in 1994 and has been named British designer of the year twice and is now the creative director of Puma. He regularly engages in art installations, has directed short films and designed costumes for dance performances, some of which can be seen in this exhibition.
Dates 22nd January – 17th May 2009

Chalayan is just the best bringin architectual forms and nature in such a beautiful symbiosis. I’d love to see the exhibition.
But I still can’t imagine him as creative dir of Puma…. would he have to reduce his amazing esthetic exaggerations and think simple, sporty, global and commercial. I’m curious….

To be honest i initially found this to be an “interesting” combination but when I interviewed him he had some interesting ideas for Puma such as working with special fibres and clothes that have a life of there own, I think the things he wants to develop will take time; but i am curious to see what happens. He will still have his own line and is also hoping to expand to menswear in the future.
lets see…
